Welcome – Help me Fix Michigan

jow - head 1

Thank you for visiting my website as Republican Candidate for Michigan State Representative, 55th District. For those of you who do not know the boundaries of the 55th district, it consists of the part of Pittsfield Township that lies outside the Ann Arbor city limits, Saline Township, York Township, the City of Milan, Milan Township, Dundee Township, Summerfield Township, the City of Petersburg, Whiteford Township, Bedford Township and Erie Township. Please visit the various pages to learn more about me, my background, why I’m running, what I stand for and how I will help you by helping to Fix Michigan.

Why I am running for State Representative

I was first approached to run for State representative in 2006. This was a year and a couple of months after I began my first term as York Township Supervisor. I had won the election by a comfortable margin against a hand picked candidate who had the support of a majority of the previous Board of Trustees and the Planning Commission. I did not think very long in making the decision to not run for State Representative. I had just started the task of straightening out the financial situation of York, was working very hard to bring in the Toyota Technical Center, bringing in the municipal water and sewer services necessary for that center and some planned commercial developments. There was also a lot of unfinished business that needed to be carefully shepherded to conclusion.

Then in November 2008 at the Washtenaw County Republican County Convention one of the long time activists stood up and said that we must absolutely return the 55th District to Republican hands and that if no one more qualified to do that decided to run than he would. Then he looked over to me and said “Joe, you are the person we really need to run.” I didn’t think too much about it then as I was comfortable in my Township Supervisor position. Over the next several months this was brought up a few more times. After this became so repetitive, I began considering entering the race. I went through a period of about two months where one day it sounded like a pretty good idea with the next day finding myself thinking “You idiot! What are you thinking? Do you really want to put yourself through the rigors of that kind of campaign?” One day I chanced upon a very long time activist for whom I have enormous respect. I was told “You HAVE to run. You are the perfect person. Look at what you have accomplished in York Township. You are exactly what we need in Lansing.”

So here we are. Please help me
Fix Michigan.
